FMA Co-operation with the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU)

The Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) is where documents of the Institutions of the European Union are kept, along with the papers of pioneers and visionaries, of political leaders, and of the numerous European voices from movements, associations and political groups.

Since 2016, the FMA is building a close and effective co-operation with the European University Institute in Florence, where Former MEPs attend to appointments for high school classes at the Historical Archives of the European Union. The programme includes a session of a European Parliament Committee in English or Italian where the former MEPs chair a simulation with active involvement from the students.

In 2017, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the HAEU launched a new educational programme called A New Treaty for Europe. The programme was intended to explain the main features of the European integration process, the functioning of the EU institutions and the EU’s Educational policies. The meetings were attended by the following members: Monica Baldi, Riccardo Garosci, Vitaliano Gemelli, Andrea Manzella, Cristiana Muscardini and Riccardo Ventre.

This 2018, the Historical Archives have developed a programme for high schools focused on three main themes: Brexit, Migrations and Rising of nationalist movements across Europe. The meetings were attended by our members Monica Baldi, Luciana Castellina, Vitaliano Gemelli, Gisela Kallenbach, Niccolò Rinaldi, Riccardo Ventre, and Sir Graham Watson.
