ANNUAL FOLLOW-UP MEETING ON DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR INTERNATIONAL ELECTION OBSERVATION
17-19 September 2013

On 17-19 September, the OSCE/ODIHR organised the annual meeting on the Declaration of Principles on election observation activities. The Declaration is a reference for organisations working in the field and it is a moment of exchange of good practices. The FMA is involved as member of the GDI and it was represented by Karin Junker.

On this occasion, Ms Junker was one of the speakers during the session "Gender Monitoring in Election Observations". She stressed the importance of women in all the process leading to elections: they should be represented in the selection of candidates, in the campaign, in the parliaments and also in the mission to observe elections as they can reach part of the society that men cannot approach. ANNUAL FOLLOW-UP MEETING ON DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES FOR INTERNATIONAL ELECTION OBSERVATION
4-5-6 October 2011

On 27 October 2005, the National Democratic Institute (United-States), in collaboration with other organisations operating in the field, elaborated a Declaration of Principles on election observation activities.
The Declaration soon became a reference for similar organisations and every year a conference, gathering together the different protagonists, is held in order to update it. The FMA is involved as member of the IEMI, and during the last conference in October was represented by Richard Balfe, President of the
IEMI, Pat Cox and Leo Duguay, respectively President of the FMA and of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians .

On this occasion, Mr. Cox stressed the importance of using the expertise and experience of former MEPs in the field of election observations and democracy building. This point of view was echoed by representatives of different countries: they pointed out that actually they had recourse to the experience of former members of national parliaments.
