FMA Online Conference “Together for the future of Europe” on Green Transition Strategy
On 8 December 2021 from 10.00 to 13.00 the fourth event of the series “Together for the Future of Europe” took place with a focus on Green Transition Strategy. What a sustainable transition can and should do for Europe.
This roundtable discussion was introduced by the FMA President and Former President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering and moderated by journalist Brian Maguire.
You can find here the summary of the event and below the video recording of the event:
Sub-themes discussed at the conference include:
- An opportunity as vital as the industrial revolution, because it will fundamentally alter how we live and work.
- An all ships rising approach is necessary, we must not leave anyone behind, everyone must benefit, and feel they benefit, or we will weaken our democracy.
- Equality and justice in how we deliver the Green Transition. This is the single most important communitarian policy opportunity Europe has for a generation.
- Innovation and Economy – investing in the Green Transition is an adrenaline shot for the economy, and from innovation and entrepreneurship will come new SMEs and scale-ups with global competition capacity.
- Health – we need to live healthier lives: the climate will cause drought for some, flooding for others, but climate change is accelerating disease risk too; and famine – which means wars.
- Employment – up-skillng and re-skilling for the Green Transition is an opportunity to engage all strands of society in a new life-long work format, which can also nurture good health and social interaction. Replacing old jobs with new and sustainable roles.
- Digital – Europe must compete efficiently and effectively, globally. Ensuring the Green Transition invests in digital innovation and skills is an accelerator for Europe’s economy and as vital as military defence. We cannot be left behind, and therefore we must standardise quickly where necessary to ensure a stable investment environment and open markets
