The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign invited Mrs Zoana, former member of the European Parliament, to participate in an online event on Friday 16 October at 8 PM called “The New Speed of Politics” : Deliberation and Decision in European Governance“. This moderated panel discussion explores how the EU Parliament has tried, succeeded or failed to adapt to the speed of requests that it is receiving for intervention. Rather than deliver a prepared talk, the university wishes the former MEP to respond to a moderator’s questions such as: How the EU Parliament has tried, succeeded or failed to adapt to the speed of the requests of intervention. Did the Parliament manage to retain or expand its role in the face of the cycle of crises of the last two decades? How does the EU parliament compare, in this perspective, with national parliaments in Europe or in the U.S.? What initiatives the EU parliament has adopted to protect and expand its role? Is an expansion of the role of the parliament even desirable?
